FDA approves use of HPV vaccine for adults 27 to 45

The FDA has approved the use of the Gardasil 9 HPV vaccine for adults aged 27 to 45, expanding its previous approval for ages 9 through 26. Gardasil 9 is effective in preventing certain cancers and diseases caused by nine types of HPV. A study involving 3,002 women aged 27 to 45 showed the vaccine to be 88% effective in preventing precancerous lesions and genital warts. The vaccine's effectiveness in men was inferred from the women's data and supported by a clinical trial involving 150 men aged 27 to 45.
