In Miami, a health project released mosquitoes infected with Wolbachia bacteria to control populations that spread Zika and Dengue. Funded by Florida's Department of Health with $4.1 million, the project aims to release 670 million mosquitoes by July. Experts warn that climate change may expand mosquito habitats, making this a preventive, long-term strategy. Florida's subtropical climate and wetlands are ideal for mosquitoes, but no fumigation will occur to protect the Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes.
