Thousands of Peruvians took to the streets to support President Martín Vizcarra after he dissolved Congress due to corruption issues. Vizcarra, who has gained popularity for his anti-corruption stance, acted after Congress denied a confidence vote linked to judicial reforms. In response, Congress temporarily suspended Vizcarra and appointed Vice President Mercedes Saraos. This marks the first dissolution since Fujimori's 1992 autogolpe, but unlike Fujimori, Vizcarra acted constitutionally. He called for parliamentary elections on January 26, with a 2018 reform preventing re-election of parliamentarians.
