VOICED : Uruguay empieza a vender marihuana estatal en farmacias

Uruguay will begin selling state-produced marijuana from Wednesday. The government announced this last week but has not specified the sales points, only that 16 pharmacies will be authorized. The marijuana will be sold in 5-gram packages, produced by two private companies selected through a public bidding process. Each unit will cost $6.6, setting the price per gram at $1.30. This marks the final stage of Uruguay's cannabis regulation law, approved in 2013, aimed at combating drug trafficking. The law allows recreational cannabis access through home cultivation, cooperative clubs, and state sales with consumer registration. Nearly 4,959 people have registered to purchase from pharmacies.
