Boris Becker, former world number one tennis player, was released after serving eight months in a UK prison for financial crimes. His lawyer stated that Becker, now 55, has completed his sentence and traveled to Germany without any legal restrictions. Becker, who had lived in the UK since 2012, was convicted on April 29 for illegally hiding or transferring large sums of money to avoid debt payments after declaring bankruptcy in 2017. His debts were estimated at up to 59 million euros. Although sentenced to two and a half years, as a foreign national sentenced to less than 12 years, he was eligible for expulsion from the UK.
