The President of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, expressed gratitude for the calmness of the population during the reopening of banks after a 12-day closure. Despite queues, there were no major disturbances. Cypriots face financial restrictions, including a daily withdrawal limit of 300 euros and a cap on foreign transfers. Travelers can only carry 1,000 euros in cash. Cyprus is the first eurozone country to impose such capital controls. To secure an EU bailout, Cyprus agreed to seize 30% of savings over 100,000 euros.
