Puppies spreading drug-resistant bacterial illnesses

The CDC reports that puppies are linked to a drug-resistant Campylobacter bacterial outbreak affecting over 100 people across 17 states. The bacteria, which causes diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever, is resistant to antibiotics. The outbreak, traced back to puppies from six pet store chains between January 2017 and February 2018, resulted in 26 hospitalizations but no deaths. Patients typically recover in about five days without treatment.
