Chile is taking steps to change its Constitution, originally from Pinochet's era. President Sebastián Piñera signed a law for a plebiscite on April 26 to decide on a new Constitution. This move follows Congress approval and public demand. The plebiscite will ask if Chileans want a new Constitution and how it should be drafted, either by a mixed commission or a fully elected convention. If approved, elections for drafting members will occur in October 2020, with a nine-month drafting period, extendable by three months.
