The fall of the 12th dynasty led to internal conflicts and the invasion of the Hyksos, a group of Asiatic tribes, who established their rule in Egypt. The Hyksos made Avaris their capital. Despite their dominance, Egyptian princes from Thebes initiated a resistance movement, ultimately defeating the Hyksos under the leadership of Ahmose. This victory marked the end of the Hyksos threat and the beginning of the New Kingdom, a new era in Egyptian history.
