The Second Intermediate Period in Egypt, spanning from the 13th to the 17th dynasties (1775-1570 BCE), was marked by political instability and power struggles. The fall of the 12th dynasty led to internal conflicts and the invasion of the Hyksos, a group of Asiatic tribes, who established their rule in Egypt. The Hyksos made Avaris their capital. Despite their dominance, Egyptian princes from Thebes initiated a resistance movement, ultimately defeating the Hyksos under the leadership of Ahmose. This victory marked the end of the Hyksos threat and the beginning of the New Kingdom, a new era in Egyptian history.
