The positive results prompted Pfizer to seek emergency use authorization from the FDA. Paxlovid is the second anticovid pill after Merck's molnupiravir, which is already approved in the UK. Unlike molnupiravir, Paxlovid is specifically designed to combat COVID-19 by inhibiting the virus's replication machinery.
