Weird Places: Movile Cave

Movila Cave in Romania, discovered in 1986, is a unique ecosystem isolated for 5.5 million years. It hosts a variety of life forms that rely on chemosynthesis due to the absence of sunlight. The cave's ecosystem is supported by bacteria that use toxic gases to produce food, shaping the cave's structure over time. Scientists have found 48 species, many of which are new, with adaptations for life in darkness. The origins of these species are uncertain, possibly linked to climate changes millions of years ago.
