Airports are adopting innovative gadgets to combat viruses. San Antonio International Airport uses a germ-zapping device called Light Strike. This device, operated manually, uses powerful bursts of ultraviolet light to kill viruses within a 2.1-meter radius. Unlike other UV devices with low-intensity mercury bulbs, Light Strike uses a xenon UVC light source that damages virus DNA and RNA quickly. The device includes safety features like motion sensors to prevent human exposure to the UV light.
