There were Actually Three Spanish Armadas

Phillip II of Spain sent an Armada to invade England in 1588, but it sank in a storm. Ten years later, he attempted a second Armada, which also failed due to a storm. England then built its own Armada to attack Spain, but it too was unsuccessful. Spain's third Armada was scattered by a storm, and the English forces were captured. Phillip II's efforts resulted in the most expensive navy in Europe.
