The Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, central to the Petrobras scandal, agreed to pay $3.5 billion in fines to the US, Switzerland, and Brazil to settle a bribery case. Odebrecht admitted to paying $788 million in bribes to officials in these countries to secure contracts over a decade. The bribery extended to Africa and Latin America. Odebrecht will pay a $2.6 billion fine, with 10% going to the US, 10% to Switzerland, and 80% to Brazil. Meanwhile, Braskem, a petrochemical company, will pay $957 million in fines and return illicit profits, with Brazil receiving 70% and the US and Switzerland each receiving 15%.
