Hamas, controlling Gaza, had rejected an earlier ceasefire proposal by Egypt, accepted by Israel. Their demands include lifting the Gaza blockade, opening the border with Egypt, and releasing Palestinian prisoners. Over 200 Palestinians and one Israeli civilian have died in the recent conflict.
