The world population is projected to reach 8 billion by November 15, according to a UN report. India is expected to surpass China as the most populous country by 2023. The UN Secretary-General highlights the shared responsibility to care for the planet. The global population is growing at its slowest rate since 1950, with projections of 8.5 billion by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050, and a peak of 10.4 billion in the 2080s. Despite declining birth rates in developing countries, half of the future population growth will occur in eight countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Tanzania.
