VOICED : Alcaldes venezolanos rechazan carcel por bloqueos en protestas

Eight opposition mayors in Venezuela have rejected a court order threatening them with jail if they do not prevent road blockages during protests against President Nicolás Maduro. The mayors are committed to defending the right to peaceful protest. The Supreme Court has ordered officials to ensure free transit and warned that mayors could face six to fifteen months in prison if they fail to comply. The mayors assert that the regime's attempts to intimidate them and the protesting communities are misguided. Since April 1, protests have resulted in 57 deaths and have caused disruptions in Caracas and other cities, with roads blocked by barricades.
