Activists placed 7,000 pairs of shoes in front of the U.S. Capitol to symbolize the students lost to school shootings since Sandy Hook in 2012. This protest highlights the inaction on gun violence. The gun control debate reignited after the Florida school shooting on February 14, which killed 17 people. Survivors initiated a movement demanding stricter gun laws, including raising the age to buy guns and banning semiautomatic weapons. On the one-month anniversary of the Florida shooting, students plan to walk out of classes to honor victims. A major march is also scheduled for March 24 in Washington and other cities.
