Italy, Tivoli - Hadrian's Villa, the Canopus

Hadrian's Villa, located in modern-day Tivoli, was built as a retreat for Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD. Disliking the Palatine Hill palace, Hadrian constructed this villa, which was a common practice among Roman emperors. The villa features classical Greek architecture, pools, baths, and gardens. Notably, the Cannabis pool and Serrapium grotto reflect Greek influences with Corinthian columns and Greek statues. The villa served as a self-sustaining estate with farms and was an open-air museum for banqueters.
