VOICED : Costa Rica avanza hacia matriz energetica totalmente renovable

Costa Rica is advancing towards a fully renewable energy matrix with the launch of a new hydroelectric plant on the Reventazón River, serving 525,000 families. This plant, along with the Panama Canal, represents one of the largest projects in the region. In 2015, nearly 99% of Costa Rica's electricity was generated from renewable sources, with over 75% from hydropower. The government plans to start constructing the Diquís plant in 2018, which will double the capacity of the current plant but faces controversy due to potential impacts on indigenous lands. If built, Diquís will ensure clean energy for the next two decades.
