ISIS has burned cars and blocked streets, and the Al-Nuri Mosque holds significant importance for them, as it was where their leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, made his only public appearance in 2014. The conflict has led to the displacement of 180,000 people, and the Iraqi government, supported by a US-led coalition, launched an offensive in October to reclaim Mosul.
