VOICED : La UE prohíbe la importación de bienes procedentes de la deforestación

The European Union has agreed to ban the import of products contributing to deforestation, such as cacao, coffee, soy, palm oil, wood, beef, and rubber, if sourced from deforested lands post-December 2020. Importers must ensure traceability using geolocation and satellite imagery. The EU accounts for 16% of global deforestation through imports, mainly soy and palm oil. The legislation, proposed in 2021, was strengthened by the European Parliament to include rubber and potentially other ecosystems like the Cerrado. The expansion of the regulation's scope is to be considered within a year of its enactment.
