In Brazil, hundreds of indigenous people were honored in the Congress of Brasilia, which they used as an opportunity to protest against a constitutional amendment that threatens their historical rights. This amendment would transfer the power of demarcating indigenous lands from the President to Congress, potentially halting future land assignments. The session meant to honor them turned into a tribal celebration. Around 1,500 indigenous people have been protesting in Brasilia against this amendment. Brazil is home to over 890,000 indigenous people from 305 ethnic groups, within a total population of 194 million.
