Tadius, born in 1792, was a staunch reformer and abolitionist who fought against slavery. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives during Lincoln's presidency and played a key role in drafting the 14th amendment. After the Civil War, he was a leading figure among radical Republicans, advocating for black suffrage and the redistribution of southern plantations to freed slaves. Despite his failing health, he remained committed to equality, requesting to be buried among African Americans to symbolize his lifelong advocacy for racial equality.
