VOICED : Nos mudamos al cementerio

In Kinsuka cemetery, south of Kinshasa, residents have built homes among the graves due to poverty and lack of alternatives. This illegal settlement leads to the destruction of graves, causing distress among cemetery workers. Despite police interventions, residents rebuild quickly, blaming traditional leaders and authorities for selling their land. The community has adapted by building a school and wells, though the water is sometimes contaminated. Living in cemeteries is not uncommon in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where poverty is widespread. For Kinsuka residents, having a roof over their heads is a priority, even if it means living with the dead.
