WeCyclers is a recycling initiative in Lagos, Nigeria, where recyclers collect plastic and aluminum waste from households, offering points that can be exchanged for gifts. Founded by Billy Casazza, the program aims to raise recycling awareness in a city with low recycling knowledge. By incentivizing recycling, WeCyclers helps reduce waste, flooding, and diseases, while promoting cleanliness. Lagos, a city of 20 million, generates 10,000 tons of waste daily, with plastic sachets being a major issue. WeCyclers partners with companies to recycle waste into reusable products. In 18 months, they collected 200 tons of waste from 5,000 households and plan to expand their workforce and reach by 2014.
