Effects of the War of 1812

The War of 1812, also known as Mr. Madison's War, was the first official war of the United States as an independent nation. It was caused by issues such as the impressment of American sailors and border disputes. Despite initial hesitations, the U.S. declared war on Britain in 1812. The war ended with the Treaty of Ghent in 1814, solidifying American independence and prompting military and economic growth. It also led to the decline of the Federalist Party and had significant impacts on Native Americans, who lost British support.
