In Ecuador, a pair of condors offers hope for their species' survival. Biologists study these birds nesting in the Peñón del Isco, near the Antizana volcano, where the highest concentration of condors in the country is found. This pair has been unusually successful, producing a chick annually since 2013, attributed to food access and safety in the Chacana Reserve. However, experts warn that one pair cannot save the species, which is nearly threatened. The 2018 census recorded 150 condors, but numbers have since declined due to poisoning and hunting. Condors, with a wingspan of 3.5 meters and weighing up to 15 kilos, are among the largest flying birds and are emblematic of the Andes.
