The Colombian government and the ELN guerrilla group announced a humanitarian demining pilot plan in Ecuador as part of peace talks to resolve the armed conflict. The government aims for a stable and lasting ceasefire with the ELN. They plan to select zones in Colombia for demining, addressing the impact of landmines, which have caused 11,500 victims since the 1960s. Peace negotiations, initiated in February, will continue in May in Ecuador.
