Nikolai Karklov, a Soviet secret police captain, defected to the West and exposed an assassination plot against an anti-Soviet organization member in Frankfurt. Influenced by his wife's plea, Karklov revealed the plan with his assistants. He met his intended victim, Georgi Aklovich, and presented the assassination weapons, which were disguised as cigarette cases and fired poison pellets. Karklov appealed to the press to save his family left in the Soviet Union.
