Guinea has been declared free of Ebola transmission by the WHO after 42 days without new cases. The epidemic, which began in 2013, resulted in over 11,300 deaths. Guinea will undergo a 90-day enhanced surveillance to prevent new cases. The outbreak was the most severe since the virus was identified in 1976, affecting mainly Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
