The Syrian Vice Prime Minister, Qadri Hamid, visited Moscow to discuss the potential resignation of President Bayar al-Assad. While making Assad's resignation a precondition for dialogue is seen as a barrier, negotiations can address any issue, including this. A proposal for an early presidential election under international supervision is being considered, allowing all candidates, including Assad, to participate. However, the US and European powers oppose Assad's involvement in these elections.
