101 Toledo War - One Minute History

In 1835, a territorial dispute known as the Toledo War arose between Michigan and Ohio over the Toledo Strip, a region of geographical importance. The conflict stemmed from differing interpretations of boundary lines set by the Northwest Ordinance. As Michigan applied for statehood, it claimed the Toledo Strip, but Ohio resisted. A military standoff ensued, with troops from both states stationed near the disputed area. Politically, President Andrew Jackson favored Ohio to secure electoral votes. Ultimately, Michigan accepted the Upper Peninsula in exchange for relinquishing its claim to the Toledo Strip, resolving the conflict with minimal human cost.
