Venezuelan legislator María Corina Machado was declared ineligible by the Contraloría to participate in upcoming parliamentary elections. Despite this, she remains determined to run, citing support from citizens and popular sovereignty. Machado was previously dismissed from parliament in 2014 for attending an OAS meeting as an alternate representative for Panama, a country with which Venezuela had severed diplomatic ties. She has the option to appeal the Contraloría's decision within 15 days and, if necessary, take the case to the Supreme Court within six months.
