158 The George Washington Distillery - One Minute History

After serving as the first President of the United States, George Washington ventured into the whiskey business. In 1797, James Anderson proposed building a distillery at Mount Vernon, which became the largest in the country by 1798. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed it in 1814. The distillery was rebuilt in 2007, and visitors can now tour it in its near-original form.
