VOICED : Irak: mas de 900 muertos en enero

In January, violence in Iraq claimed over 900 lives, three times more than in January 2013. Two major incidents occurred: a hostage situation resolved by Iraqi forces and attacks near a market and restaurant in Baghdad. The hostage situation involved six armed men, two of whom detonated explosives. The attack was not claimed, but Sunni insurgents have targeted government buildings before. Rising violence has sparked fears of returning to the 2006-2007 conflict levels between Sunnis and Shias. The Sunni minority feels discriminated against by the Shia-led government.
