French President François Hollande requested Pope Francis to meet with the Syrian opposition to promote a political solution for peace. The request was made during a 35-minute meeting where they also discussed human dignity, family, and bioethics. Hollande's visit coincided with a homemade explosive near a French church in Rome and a false bomb alarm at the Vatican, which prompted police action but no suspicious objects were found.
