Aphrodisias, an ancient Greek city in Anatolia, Turkey, was named after the goddess Aphrodite. It became known as Steropolis in the Byzantine era and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017. The city featured a stadium and theater, with the stadium being one of the best-preserved ancient Greek stadia. It was used for athletic events and later converted for Roman-style entertainments.
