USS Conestoga shipwreck found near San Francisco by NOAA, Navy after 95 years lost at sea

The USS Conestoga set sail from Mare Island with 56 crew members, bound for Tutuila, American Samoa, but never arrived. It encountered a storm and disappeared. In 2009, NOAA discovered a shipwreck using sonar technology. A 2014 investigation confirmed the wreck as the Conestoga, found 185 feet underwater, matching its dimensions and features.
