In the Netherlands, a new eco-friendly burial method using compostable coffins made from mycelium is introduced. This method allows bodies to decompose in 2-3 years, compared to over 10 years with traditional coffins. The compostable coffin itself decomposes in 30-45 days, enriching the soil with nutrients. It is also more cost-effective, priced at around 1500 euros. This innovation has led to the creation of a startup, aiming to make ecological burials a common practice.
