Bombing of the USS Franklin, March 1945

The carrier Franklin was attacked by Japanese bombers, resulting in severe damage and casualties. Despite the devastation, the crew displayed remarkable discipline and heroism in their efforts to save the ship. Rescue operations were conducted under dire conditions, with many crew members trapped and injured. The Franklin eventually returned to American waters, where the bravery of the crew was recognized with numerous honors, including the Navy Cross and the Congressional Medal of Honor.
