The Mexican state of Jalisco is gripped by fear following an unprecedented offensive by a powerful drug cartel. The attack included shooting down a military helicopter, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and the disappearance of three others. In total, seven people died and 19 were injured during the day, which saw four clashes between hitmen and security forces. Armed men terrorized 25 municipalities, blocking roads with 36 burning vehicles and setting fire to banks and gas stations. Businesses closed early due to fear. The government attributes the violence to the cartel's reaction to the launch of Operation Jalisco, aimed at dismantling the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which had been attacking authorities.
