Maxo, a former soldier, is summoned to Chan Chan amidst political turmoil. The Chimu Empire, once powerful, is now under Inca rule. Maxo navigates the city, reflecting on its past glory. He meets a priest who leads him to a secret gathering planning a rebellion against the Incas. The group needs Maxo's knowledge of the battlefield. Despite fears for the king held hostage, a rumor of the king's death spurs the rebellion. The young prince will lead the charge. The rebellion ultimately fails, leading to the destruction of Chan Chan. Decades later, the Inca Empire falls to the Spanish. A mummy found near Chan Chan suggests a survivor of the rebellion lived to old age.
