France began dismantling the Calais Jungle, a large migrant camp, where thousands of migrants, mainly from Sudan and Eritrea, have been living. The camp, a symbol of Europe's migrant crisis, housed people dreaming of reaching the UK. An operation to evacuate 6,000 to 8,000 migrants to 451 centers across France is underway. Despite this, some migrants continue to attempt crossing the English Channel. The crisis has highlighted divisions within the EU and fueled the rise of far-right parties.
