VOICED : Abimael Guzman vuelve a juicio en Peru

Abimael Guzmán, leader of the Peruvian Maoist guerrilla group Sendero Luminoso, appeared in a Lima court for the first time in nearly a decade. He is serving a life sentence for terrorism in a high-security military prison. The trial concerns a 1992 attack that killed 25 people. The police determined the attack was carried out by a Sendero Luminoso unit, but Guzmán's direct involvement is unproven. The defense argues the trial aims to prevent the release of three convicted members completing their sentences this year. None of the accused spoke during the hearing.
