Former US Rep. George Santos pleads guilty in federal fraud case

Former Congressman George Santos pleaded guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, admitting to stealing identities and misusing funds for personal luxury. He also illegally obtained unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially pleading not guilty to a 23-count indictment, Santos now faces at least two years in prison, restitution of over $370,000, and forfeiture of more than $200,000.
