Concurrently, the Iraqi Air Force conducted its first airstrikes on ISIS positions in Syria. Despite these efforts, ISIS continues to move and launch attacks in the region. In 2014, ISIS declared a caliphate across Iraq and Syria, displacing the Iraqi army from Mosul, where 750,000 people still reside according to the UN.
