This follows the reduction of his FIFA suspension from six to four years by the Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte. Initially suspended for eight years due to a controversial payment of 1.8 million euros in 2011, the penalty was reduced to six years after an appeal. Platini and former FIFA president Joseph Plater claimed the payment was for advisory work under an oral contract. The tribunal acknowledged the contract's validity but questioned the payment's legitimacy, also reducing Platini's fine from 80,000 to 60,000 Swiss francs.
