Cuba has been excluded from the preparations for the upcoming Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, marking a potential historical setback compared to previous summits where Cuba participated equally. Cuban officials claim the U.S. is pressuring regional governments to support this exclusion. The summit will occur from June 8-10, 2022, in California. Previously, Cuba attended summits in 2015 and 2018. Recently, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with regional ministers in Panama to discuss migration, a pressing issue as Cuba faces a significant economic crisis and mass emigration. From October 2021 to March 2022, over 78,000 Cubans entered the U.S. via Mexico, nearly doubling the numbers from the 1994 crisis.
