América Móvil, led by Carlos Slim, announced plans to reduce its telecom stake in Mexico below 50% to cease being a dominant economic agent. This decision follows the approval of a telecom reform by the Chamber of Deputies, aimed at curbing monopolies and enhancing competition for better quality and pricing. Telmex currently holds a significant share in both fixed and mobile telephony in Mexico. The reform also impacts Televisa, which dominates the Spanish-speaking TV market. América Móvil serves 292 million mobile users across 26 countries, with 74 million in Mexico.
